FIDA’s Horticulture Technician Training Bears Fruit

In a transformative stride towards sustainable agriculture, the Farmers’ Integrated Development Association (FIDA) recently concluded a two-month Skill Development Course for Young Farmers, focusing on molding them into adept Horticulture Technicians. The primary objective of this course was to bridge the gap in skilled manpower within the horticulture sector.

The meticulous process began with a thorough Training Need Assessment (TNA), ensuring the curriculum aligned with industry demands. Following this, the identification and selection of 30 young farmers marked the commencement of a journey that would redefine their roles in agriculture.

The comprehensive course covered a spectrum of topics, from the fundamentals of horticulture to advanced techniques such as tunnel farming, crop selection, and pest management. Practical sessions and exposure visits enriched their learning, providing hands-on experience crucial for real-world applications.

Upon completion, the success stories emerged, highlighting the impact of FIDA’s intervention. Several young farmers are now actively engaged with FIDA, extending their newfound expertise to grassroots communities. 05 inspiring tale unfolds in Harripur, Vehari, Bahawalpur, and Khanewal where the graduates of the program have assumed the role of farm managers, bringing innovative techniques and knowledge to enhance agricultural practices.

Furthermore, these young farmers are not just contributors but leaders in their own right. Many have seamlessly integrated the acquired skills into their personal fields, implementing best practices in crop management, irrigation systems, and pest control. Their dedication to sustainable agriculture is not confined to their fields; they are actively involved in disseminating knowledge at the village level, becoming agents of change within their communities.

The success of FIDA’s Horticulture Technicians program resonates not only in the thriving careers of these young farmers but also in the broader impact on the agricultural landscape. It is a testament to FIDA’s commitment to empowering the youth, fostering sustainable livelihoods, and creating a ripple effect of positive change in Pakistan’s agricultural sector.
